If you feel that the moisturizer alone is not enough, or that your skin gets dry again after a few hours, the solution may not be in changing the product, the solution may be in the method of use.
This is where the Korean layering technique for moisturizing comes in .
A simple but very clever approach, based on building hydration step by step instead of relying on one heavy cream.
Let us explain the technique to you in detail, and how you can apply it with products available in my routine.
First: What is layering technology?
The layering technique means applying lightweight products in a deliberate order, each layer paving the way for the next, in order to:
- You increase the level of hydration
- It reduces water loss from the skin
- Strengthening the skin barrier
- You get a healthy glow without the heaviness
The main idea:
Water-based products first, followed by a serum, and then a cream to lock in moisture.
How do you apply the layering technique step by step?
1) Gentle wash
Rule number one: Don't ruin the hydration from the start.
From my routine:
IUNIK Centella Mild Cleansing Foam
- It cleans without causing any tightness.
- Contains centella to soothe the skin
- Suitable for sensitive and dry skin
Use only lukewarm water.
2) First layer: Moisturizing toner
This is the most important step in layering technology.
How to use:
Apply a light layer with the palm of your hand and pat.
Wait 20–30 seconds.
If your skin is very dry, repeat with a second or third layer.
This method is sometimes called the “7 Skin Method” in Korean skincare (but often 2–3 layers are enough).
3) Second layer: Supporting serum
After you fill your skin with water, you need an ingredient that strengthens the barrier.
From my routine:
- Beta-glucan serum – IUNIK
- It deeply moisturizes, strengthens the barrier, and reduces redness.
Rose serum - IUNIK
It moisturizes and soothes the skin and is suitable for oily skin.
4) Final layer: A cream that locks in moisture
Without this step, all the moisture could evaporate.
Use a cream that helps with:
- Reduce water loss
- Barrier support
- Install previous layers
IUNIK Beta-Glucan Cream An excellent choice to complete the layers with a light and nourishing touch.
Why is layering better than heavy cream?
Because only heavy cream is used:
- Moisten the surface
- It can clog pores
- What provides deep, gradual hydration
As for the classes:
- Moisturization occurs gradually.
- Saudi Arabia's dry climate
- Reduces peeling
- It gives a healthy appearance without excess fat.
When do you use layering techniques?
- In winter
- After retinol
- After peeling
- In an air-conditioned environment
- If your skin loses moisture quickly
Mistakes you must avoid
- Add all the layers quickly without waiting
- You mix powerful products with the same routine
- Use hot water before moisturizing
- Don't forget sunscreen in the morning
Korean layered moisturizing technology is based on:
gentle wash
Layered toner
Supporting serum
Moisture-locking cream
Simple, but it completely changes your skin's hydration level.
